#RIUHTries: SKINNED Dancin' N Gleamin' Duo

BLOG

More often than not, the skincare products available to us are not based on South East Asian skin and climate. If you struggle with finding the right skincare, SKINNED's Dancin' & Gleamin' Duo that we’re about to share with you are going to be a game changer to your routine. And what better way to prove that than with a tried-and-tested review by the RIUH girls themselves?

Introducing SKINNED

Conscious Skincare, Where Health Comes First ✨
Vegan, free of paraben, cruelty & everything toxic.

SKINNED was founded about two years ago with the aim to empower feminine and masculine natural beauty by offering curated skincare products. The founder, Alissa Emalyn suffered sensitive skin and eczema. She had a complex relationship with her skin earlier in life and had to consult it out with a dermatologist. Upon having the idea of launching SKINNED, the brand was created with the intention of “less is more”.

#RIUHTries Review: First Impressions

1. Packaging:

Emma: I appreciated that the box listed the ingredients. The font and colour combo on the box is super cute - kind of wish they kept it on the bottles itself.

Nabila: It was packed with a simple card that had basic information about the product, and which enabled us to find more details on their website and social media. The design of the product's packaging was funky and appealing!

2. Serum:

Emma: The texture is goopy-er compared to the moisturizer, but that makes sense given that it’s a serum and more concentrated. But for that reason, I decided to use it at night only. It’s a great complement to the moisturizer, in terms of texture.

Nabila: First impression of the serum was that it looks very thick, but felt lightweight once applied. It absorbs really quickly and this one made my skin dewy and soft.

3. Moisturizer:

Emma: As someone with combination skin and prone to oiliness, I’ve stayed away from cream moisturisers for almost a decade now. I love the texture of this moisturizer and I think it really works well for the Malaysian climate.

Being fragrance free, it does have a slight stench to it, but nothing unbearable. I personally enjoy skincare that smells good but that’s a matter of personal preference. It applies smoothly on the skin and absorbs quickly, with no greasy appearance. I’m a fan!

Nabila: I agree that it's definitely lightweight, and had a certain smell which I wasn't a fan of. But it doesn't linger on the skin so it was bearable.

#RIUHTries Review: Results After 2 Weeks

1. Moisturizer:

Emma: In comparison with Laneige’s gel moisturizer, and both of Hada Labo’s liquid and gel moisturizer - I’m honestly really impressed with SKINNED’s moisturizer formula - it’s light enough to sit under my sunscreen but dense enough that my skin feels supple, even in air-conditioned rooms. Ultimately, this also means that my skin is producing less oil than it usually does to compensate for the dryness.

I would most definitely repurchase and recommend. The price is competitive to luxury brands that you’d commonly find at Sephora and may not be as budget-friendly as drug-store products, but it’s worth not having to experiment anymore - I’ve definitely found my go-to moisturizer, and it's Malaysian!

Nabila: It did help with the flakiness in my T-zone area. It doesn't leave a sticky residue on the skin and ultimately does the job. I give it a 7/10!

2. Serum:

Emma: After a day of wearing make-up, and then double cleansing, I feel like the serum is the answer to replenishing my skin with nutrients and giving it a healthy boost before I head to bed. In general, I would recommend a serum or oil for that extra oomph to feed your skin before bed. This one did the job. There was no stand-out changes to my skin, but if it doesn't cause any unwanted breakout or uneven texture, then that's a win in my book.

Nabila: I have very sensitive skin, and I can usually notice the reaction towards my skin after a few days after trying out new products. I did get a little breakout in my chin and cheeks area. Although this is sometimes a natural reaction when using a new product, I’m willing to give it more time. Regardless, the price is worth the size of the product (50ml), and will definitely last you awhile!
