5 Hotels To Consider For Your Next KL Staycation

BLOG

It’s the end of the year and if there’s one thing people look forward to, it’s the holidays. There’s Christmas and New Years Eve in the last six days of the year, as well as all the accumulated, untaken leave days from work that we typically make full use of in the magical month of December.

Though some have left the country for their long-awaited destination travels, most of us are still in Malaysia, looking for a reason to channel our vacation mood. This usually encompasses turning on airplane mode, getting our most extra/insta-worthy ‘fits ready for the ‘gram, and any excuse to spend our hard-earned ka-chings in the name of self care.

KL, being the spot many of us go to for excitement, offers a multitude of staycation spots you can consider. Whether it’s to relax and unwind or endless fun into the night, there’s definitely something for you and the budget you’ve set for yourself.

Let’s explore some of KL’s staycation spots catered to whatever holiday vibe you’re in the mood for.

MoMo’s Kuala Lumpur

Reasonably-priced party central.

Designed to feel like an experiential gallery, MoMo’s in Chow Kit is a social hotel with 99 minimalist ‘micro’ rooms sized from 120sqft to 170sqft. Every room comes complete with their signature warm ambient lighting (they’re dimmable too!) and 43” smart TV all casting-ready. From Monday to Friday, the hotel fires up their grill for juicy burgers but from Friday to Sunday, the guys over at Fowlboys serve their signature cluckin’ good grubs.

Part of what makes MoMo’s the ideal space for socialising are all the events hosted at The Playground, their creative event space. This December alone, there’s MoMo’s Art Fair, Christmas Artisanal Markets, MOJO | Sivillian Affairs, MoMo-oke, Christmas Party, and NYE Party happening - that’s something EVERY weekend!

From now until 30 Dec 2021, MoMo’s is offering their Crashpad or Crashpad for 2 from only RM120. Not just that, you’ll also receive free drinks credits worth RM120! If you’re in the mood for more atas dining, head next door to The Chow Kit for fancier meals and drinks. Alternatively,  The Row, JOLOKO, and Tapestry are a 10-minute walk away.

KL Journal Hotel

Neon-lit, chic nostalgia.

KL Journal Hotel is a chic boutique hotel in Bukit Bintang popularly known for their rooftop pool, The Swimming Club.

Located only a short walk away from Changkat’s strip of expat-frequented bars, KL Journal Hotel offers an experience that’s set to make you feel like a tourist. Its Miami Vice-reminiscent rooftop pool is the perfect canvas for sunset swims overlooking the KL skyline, accompanied by yummy drinks served on the side.

If your friends who aren’t staying over want to join you for a dip, they’re welcomed to – at a fee, of course. But they’ll also get to choose a complimentary drink! Once you’re towel-dried and ready to rest, head back to a stylish room where nostalgia meets industrial chic. If you’re lucky, you’ll even get to sleep and wake up to an elevated view of our beloved Kuala Lumpur.

Their Deluxe King and Deluxe Triple rooms are blessed with the street photography work of KL’s renowned local photographer Che’ Ahmad Azhar, whose work the hotel exclusively commissioned him for. Besides that, all rooms come with JBL wireless speakers, high pressure rain showers, SEALY Posturepedic mattress and 40" flat screen Netflix-ready Smart TVs for that well-rested, taken-care-of feeling.

Sekeping Tenggiri

Designed for quiet moments in nature.

Part of Ng Seksan’s personal collection, Sekeping Tenggiri in Bangsar perfectly encapsulates industrial design with sustainability. Green vines, wooden features, brick blocks, and cement furniture make up a majority of what once was an art warehouse. Offering a total of 7 rooms from RM220, Sekeping Tenggiri sits close to a number of well renowned eateries like Baba Low’s, N97, and Naj & Belle.

The open-air design creates breezy natural ventilation while its basic furnishing encourages quality, social interactions. Expect natural sun rays through tree branches painting shadows onto the cement floors and outdoor showers to emulate that being-outdoors feeling. Besides that, the charming pool by the green open space can host intimate conversations that you’ll probably forget that you’re in Bangsar.

If you’re looking for a quiet, countryside vibe with lots of greenery without having to drive for hours, perhaps Sekeping Tenggiri is the place for you.

Perhaps your idea of a staycation isn’t just another home away from home, but instead is one that’s embellished with all the finer things in life. The RuMa Hotel & Residences is a tranquil haven located in the very heart of Kuala Lumpur’s golden triangle. Amidst the noise that the city typically makes, The RuMa inspiringly captures the essence of what makes a house a home with hospitality that leaves a lasting impression.

The hotel interior pays a clear tribute to local tradition in warm, amber tones and textures from yesteryears. Much like a home’s space for reading and writing, LIBRARI is the RuMa’s space for contemplative thought and journey through knowledge about culture, history, design, and more. For delectable bites, ATAS Modern Malaysian Eatery curates culinary flavours with hand-picked local produce and heirloom ingredients.

For some time outdoors, immerse yourself in the mosaic-tiled pool - an oasis that glistens in the presence of the sun and sparkles when the city lights come alive. SANTAI Pool Bar and Lounge is the place to be for some refreshing drinks and daytime naps by the pool. If that’s not relaxing enough, UR SPA’s bespoke treatments with organic formulations on the 6th floor would surely alleviate the stress.

The RuMa offers 10 different kinds of rooms with extravagant features like a 24-hour butler service, in-room dining, twin-vanity basins, oval soaking bathtub and separate rainforest showers, and 330-thread-count bed linens. If what you seek is an experience that leaves you feeling spoiled is what you’re after, consider a staycation at The RuMa.
